Caravan insurance
Caravan Insurance
Your caravan is one of the biggest purchases you’ll make outside your home — and standard home insurance does not cover it sitting on a park. Separate caravan insurance matters, whether your caravan is static or touring.
Here’s what the policies actually do, where the gaps hide, and how to compare quotes without paying for cover you don’t need.

Static caravan insurance covers your holiday home on its park: the structure, contents, and liability for the pitch. It is usually purchased annually and is often a requirement of the park, in which case the site will specify a minimum level of cover.
Touring caravan insurance follows the caravan: damage in transit, on site, and in storage, plus theft and contents. You typically need it from the moment you tow away from the dealership.
What trips owners up
- Underinsuring the new-for-old value of a static caravan
- Not declaring that the caravan is let or sublet — many policies exclude letting income
- Ignoring storm and flood cover, which matters on exposed coastal parks
- Missing contents cover for the caravan’s furnishings
- Assuming “laid-up” periods are covered if you leave the van unoccupied in winter
- For touring: not carrying the right cover for awnings, cycles and accessories
How to compare quotes the right way
Compare like for like on the cover you need, not just the premium. Check the sum insured, excess levels, storm/flood limits and whether letting cover is included. The cheapest annual premium can be the most expensive the moment you claim.
As with all our recommendations, quotes and terms change constantly — get a current written quote before you decide.
