Static Caravan Finance

Most static caravan buyers pay with cash or savings, but finance is widely available — through the park, through specialist caravan finance, or through personal loans. The difference in cost between these options is huge.

Here is how static caravan finance works in the UK, what it really costs, and how to decide whether to borrow at all.

The short answer

Can I get finance for a static caravan?

Yes — parks offer in-house finance, specialist holiday-home lenders exist, and a personal loan is often cheaper. Holiday-home finance is unsecured and typically carries APRs of around 9–15%, so compare the total cost carefully before borrowing.

Your finance options compared

  • Park finance: convenient, arranged in the showground, but often the most expensive — check the APR and the total repayable
  • Specialist caravan finance: designed for holiday homes, unsecured loans with APRs typically in the high single to mid-teens
  • Personal loan: often the cheapest route for good credit — compare before letting the park arrange anything
  • Secured borrowing (e.g. remortgage): never borrow against your home for a depreciating caravan without serious thought

What it really costs to borrow

On a £40,000 caravan financed over seven years at 10% APR, you repay around £55,000-plus — roughly £15,000 in interest, on a home that will have depreciated. That trade-off is the heart of the finance decision.

Borrow as little as possible and for the shortest term that fits your budget. If you can defer buying for a year to save, that is usually the better deal.

What finance providers check

Lenders treat a static caravan as a discretionary leisure purchase, so they check your credit file, income and commitments just like any unsecured loan. A deposit (often 10–25%) reduces the amount borrowed and improves your chance of approval and a better rate.

Frequently asked questions

Is caravan finance more expensive than a normal loan?+
Usually yes. Specialist and park-arranged holiday-home finance carries higher APRs than a mainstream personal loan for the same amount — always compare a personal loan first.
What deposit do I need for caravan finance?+
Typically 10–25% of the purchase price. A larger deposit means lower interest and repayments — see our deposit guide for the full picture.
Do I need to be approved by the park to buy on finance?+
Finance approval is separate from park approval, but the park must approve you as the buyer and transfer the pitch. Both need to happen before completion.
